About

Dr. Dawit Weldemichael is the Medical Director at The Recovery Village Atlanta. Born to Eritrean parents in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, he began his medical career after graduating from Addis Ababa University’s medical school. He worked as a general practitioner in Ethiopia’s remote border towns, providing care to Sudanese refugees and native tribes afflicted by tropical diseases, HIV, and injuries linked to tribal conflicts. This formative experience deeply shaped his approach to medicine. Transitioning to academia, Dr. Weldemichael became a lecturer, coordinated biomedical and behavioral sciences, and played a pivotal role in establishing a new medical school and referral hospital. Pursuing his passion for teaching, he earned a master’s degree in Pharmacology and Toxicology, which ultimately guided his path toward Psychiatry in the United States.

Named one of the best Chief Residents at Saint Louis University’s Department of Neurology and Psychiatry, Dr. Weldemichael developed a keen interest in sleep medicine, particularly its connection to mental health. His research on circadian rhythm disturbances in neurocognitive disorders was published in the International Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease. He expanded his expertise through a sleep medicine fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, becoming board-certified in both sleep medicine and psychiatry. Dr. Weldemichael is the founder of Hakim LLC and has extensive experience managing neuropsychiatric conditions, dual diagnoses and addiction medicine. Beyond clinical and leadership roles in Missouri and Georgia, he is a dedicated telemedicine provider, husband and proud father of four children.
